This computer is pretty bad so forgive my
typing
To be honest It's been kind of hard to remember
everything that happened, but I will try. This mission is tons of walking for sure.
Okay so Tuesday we grinded (as usual) and we
walked to so many places. We had zone conference
with President and Hermana Myers which was cool. It was all in Spanish so this
American Elder named Elder Martin translated the whole thing for me (8am-2pm) I
can't wait to be able to translate as good as he did.
That night I was suprised to hear that I was
going on splits with one of the zone leaders, Elder Bueno. He is pretty cool
and is from Brazil. And.....you guessed it...no english! But at least my
Spanish has gotten better.
So what turned into one day of splits turned
into 3 days. It made
me grateful for Magdalena because Nogales is rough. Nothing but dirt roads,
hills, and super poor people. They have almost nothing but are willing to make
us food. It is truly amazing what we have in America.
So after being in Nogales for a while, I
finally made it back to Magdalena on Saturday. Where we had some lessons set
up...but no one answered. So naturally, we tracted.
We then taught this mom and her two daughters
and it was amazing how much I could understand. It wasn't a whole lot, but
still a lot more than I ever could have. I then bore my testimony and the
Spirit was so strong. I just had this love for this mom and her two girls. They
want us to teach them more and want to come to church. It is amazing how much
the Spirit can fill a room. It was awesome.
So Sunday was pretty low key for the first half
of the day. We woke up, studied, and went to church where there was stake
conference. Stake conference in Mexico is different because it is all of mexico
and it is this huge broadcast from salt lake and it is all in spanish. Rasband
spoke along with some other general authorities. Didn't understand anything but
hey...whatcha gonna do!
P day today has been pretty chill. Cleaned the
house, ate at some restaurant that we had to walk like 30 min for (but ate for
free!), and I got a haircut.
Now some "fun" stuff
Tortillas- the tortillas here are actually the
best thing ever. I think I am addicted. These flour tortillas tossed on the pan
and heated up for a minute....SO GOOD
Latino teens- hahaha I guess it is super funny
to talk to a gringo and to hear us speak spanish and english. All the girls
laugh at everything I do...so they hear our lessons so that's good! Elder Bueno
says all Hispanic girls love the tall gringos...haha
Coke- I literally have Coke everyday. Everyone
serves it to their guests. Every person in Mexico owns at least 6 liters of
Coke on them at all times (along with tortillas). So if I'm fat....that's why.
Spiritual thought: I don't think I have ever
shared a spiritual thought....so I'm gonna start doing it.
I have been reading in Alma when Alma and
Amulek were preaching and saw al the women and children burn and then were
thrown into jail. I thought I had it hard...those guys are warriors! Alma had
the Spirit with him so strongly he knew they were gonna be okay. Then iterally
the prison collapses! How awesome is that! I know that when we have the Lord on
our side then anything is possible (like learning Spanish):)
Much love, Elder Gregory
