Mexico CCM (4th)

Oct. 12, 2018

Hey guys what is good!!! I have officially been here in Mexico for a solid 3 days...so I basically an honorary Mexican...Haha in all seriousness it has been great so far.

It was hard saying goodbye to the Provo MTC (and the US for the next couple years). I said goodbye to many missionaries I have only known for a few weeks but have grown to love. I said goodbye to our Spanish teacher, Hermano Nelson...that was super hard. I loved going to class and he was very patient with our Spanish. Gonna miss that guy!!

Anyways, so I am currently in Mexico City at the CCM (or Spanish version of MTC). And lemme tell you...it is just straight crazy. It's basically like a bunch of houses....times a million!! It's crazy how big it is here. We are right smack in the middle (with high security and a huge fence) of the city so that's pretty cool. Everyone here speaks Spanish (obviously) but it's much different hearing it from a native  than an American. I can pick out some words and speak some broken Spanish back...but it's all good! I just try and smile and laugh through my struggles.
Our two teachers here are native Mexico City residents and are super cool. They recently learned English and so we get to learn from them and they learn from us! It's a struggle at times, but I have felt God's blessings as I try and communicate through a different language. I know that when I teach the gospel to somebody or even just try to talk to them, it is hard. However, there is no better teacher than experience! No good sailor learned to sail on smooth seas! There's no growth in the comfort zone!

Pretty funny story, at the Provo MTC during our limited time to exercise, we weren't allow to touch rim/dunk in the gym (super lame). But there is no rules here in Mexico! The other day we were playing ball and our time was wrapping up and this kid attempts to dunk...he was pretty close but no cigar. Then this other super annoying kid that I was playing against said something like..."I would like to see someone try and dunk..."
If anyone knows me, I took that personally. It might be prideful...but I just had to humble this kid. It's been a while since I actually tried. But I was pretty motivated to stick it to this kid. I wish I could show y'all the face this kid made when I flew and 2 hand slammed it. I was just as surprised (to be quite frank) as everyone else was. Everyone went crazy, so I did it a couple more times and left. Needless to say...I'm pretty glad my baller reputation followed me to Mexico.

Love and miss all of you guys! I wish I could tell you guys what I do everyday all the time but my time is limited here! Thanks for the love and support! Please feel free to shoot me an email, I'd love to hear about how you're doing! I'll do my best to respond!
