Nov. 5, 2018 Mission Address (7th)

Sup guys! I'm doing pretty good down here in the state of Sonora here in Mexico! I am in a small town named Magdalena (about an hour and a half away from the border) and I would be lying if I said this week wasn't hard...but it can only get better!
As one might imagine, being thrown into a place where you don't really understand the language nor speak it...plus being in a place that is really isolated and really hot in the day and cold at night...might be hard! But as someone wise once said..."What doesn't kill you makes you STRONGER"

Haha gotta thrown in a little America in there! Anyways, since I am new, I am assigned a companion who trains me for two transfers (transfer equals 6 weeks...so 12 weeks). My trainer is named Elder Sanchez, he is from Chihuahua Mexico...and you guessed it...doesn't speak English! Alright he speaks a little english but it's definitely hard to communicate with someone who speaks at the speed of light and can't understand "do you know how the shower works?"
He is pretty nice though, he is also a rodeo champion in Chihuahua...I don't really know what that means but I'm just gonna go with it! 
Magdalena is basically you're stereotypical mexican town. Everyone here serves tortillas with every meal, kind of in a poorer/not very financially stable place in their life, but are so kind and humble. We are able to teach many people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is awesome.
We had a total of 9 people at church on Sunday including ourselves, but the members are awesome and are so kind. One even offered to help me with my Spanish everyday...the grind doesn't stop!

Funny story, so I guess the name "Gregory" is kind of hard to say to the native Spanish tongue...but all Mexicans know Conor McGregor (UFC, MMA, Boxing, etc. is really big. You could be a teenager or grandma and still know Conor McGregor). So I always ask in my broken spanish if they know Conor McGregor and just add the "y". Alot of people find it funny. People also take it as if I know how to box and they want to fight me. Anyone who knows me probably knows I'm not trying to throw hands with the people down here. Other people think I'm a fighter so they say I am not gonna mess with you! All in all, if you hear of "Elder McGregory"...that is me.

We read in Luke 22 about Jesus Christ atoning for our sins and suffering all pains, agonies, and heartbreaks for all of humanity in the Garden of Gethsemane. 74 Week "I only love my bed and my momma...I'm sorry!!!

This past week was a bit of a rough one....it's not everyday that a missionary gets sick on his mission. It's even worse when you can't leave the house for a few days cause you can't do a whole lot except.....well...recover! But I'm feeling better and we're back on the grind so it's all good! Here's a few things about Caborca that one should know... 1) Imagine that you are in the middle of no where in the desert, and you see a random city....That would be Caborca 2) Caborca is super famous for their world class Asparagus. There's a bunch of farms here and a ton of people work on them. We are in harvesting season right now so it's pretty hectic. 3) In case I haven't mentioned before, it's the straight desert here. So we are always having to be careful with the flying sand and dust that's in the air. 4) People say the best tortillas are from Caborca....they're good don't get me wrong....but all of Sonora will have s...

75 Elder McGregory is back

What's good?! Just wanted to give a quick update! Elder McGregory: So if y'all remember my good ole days in Magdalena, I was (somewhat) commonly known as Elder McGregory (nicknaming after the boxer/fighter Conor McGregor). Now it has come full circle...allow me to explain... Bobby: One day this random dude calls us up and just says, "Elders, my name is Bobby and I want to get baptized." We stopped whatever we were doing and met up with him immediately. He told us he has taken the lessons for 3 years but had never felt prepared until now. He lives in the area of the sister missionaries, so we passed the reference. It also turns out (oh by the way, this guy is HUGE) that this Bobby dude is the owner of a boxing gym. He always says that we can go to his gym whenever we want.
