35 The Switch

Image
The subject line is a phrase my (old) companion Elder Richards and I made up. It's basically the ability to switch from speaking English to Spanish or vice versa. I'm getting better at it, but I still find myself slipping in Spanish words when speaking English. LANGUAGE IS SO CRAZY!! Funny story: every Sunday we teach an English class to the members of the branch here in Navojoa, and one 15 year old girl asked why we say the word "sick" for something that means cool (example: that basketball game was sick!...or your shirt is so cool...sick!) and I couldn't explain why.....just weird English phrases! These past few weeks have been really good. Elder Richards and I have been straight grinding on the bikes trying to hit the outskirts of Navojoa. I'm talking like 30 min bike rides....so basically saying I'll be Lance Armstrong by the end of my time here is an understatement. Hopefully my legs will be hecka jacked. Anyways, we have been blessed ...

34 Navojoa

Image
Hey!  I'm still chilling in Navojoa here with Elder Richards and yes....we are avoiding the dogs the best we can! This week we tried visiting more members and working with them in the missionary work here. We have been able to find a few people from them so it's been super cool to see the people we have been able to teach. One guy we are working with is named Vladamir (no he's not Russian). He's this huge dude who has a gentle heart. He's been looking for a change and has come to church with us a few times. He's just eating up all of the things we teach him. Hopefully we can have a baptism for him this week! Well I have officially read and finished the Book of Mormon (at least here in the mission) and I have learned so much and gained such an amazing testimony of it! I can't wait to continue to study it and edificar mi testimonio even more! Moroni chapter 7 might be my all time favorite chapter. There are so many wonderful things we can l...

Week 33 No Phone Call

Sup dudes! Or more mexican slang...que onda batos!  I'm doing pretty well right now, I'm actually in the city of Obregon for the day for a doctor's appointment. Obregon is pretty cool! But I'm glad to be serving in navojoa....feels more like home to me! This week was pretty good! We had the bapstimal service for Gustavo this past week and he is just so sick. He loves the gospel and loves everything about the church. I am pretty fortunate to have found a "chosen one" like him on my mission! I wanted to touch on some of the things about the Mexican culture that I've learned here because I don't think I have a ton like I should have. La cultura de México es bien suave! DISCLAIMER- these things don't identify with all of Mexico (maybe they do) but things are things I have experienced here in the state of Sonora Here's a short list:  1. Like I may have said before, when you are eating any meal at any time of the day, you are gua...

Week 32 Coco!!!

Image
This past week was great!  It started off with a branch activity with family history. We helped show a presentation of how to work Family Search and then we watched Coco!! It was super fun to see a "worldly" movie! We then had a lot of lessons. We were able to find many people with the members and doing service. It was super fun to serve others and to see the joy and happiness in their smiles as we helped do yardwork, washed dishes, or helped out with their English! We ended the week with a trip to the temple! Elder Richards and I took our convert and his sister to do baptisms. What a beautiful experience it was! We even got to spend some more time in the temple and on the grounds. I love the peace and comfort that we can feel only in the temple. Love you guys! Have a great week! Elder Gregory Mass Email Below: I'll keep this one short...but first....I totally forgot to give a shotout to my boy Jimmer for signing with (don't care that they...
