53 weeks I’M A DAD LET’S GO
Before y'all get confused about the subject line, allow me to explain some missionary terms...
dad= your first companion in the mission field, or your trainer
kid= your trainee, or you're a missionary's first companion in the mission field
So we had our transfers this past week, and I get the call that I was going to leave Hermosillo, open an area in Ciudad Obregon, and TRAIN A NEW MISSIONARY AND BECOME A "FATHER"!!!! So it's been a little overwhelming...but we are doing okay!
Leaving Hermosillo was HEARTBREAKING. I said goodbye to some families and people that I have truly loved. It's weird what the mission does to you, you really develop a love for the people you serve. There were I few that I said bye to that left me in tears. However, whenever a door closes, another one opens!
So after backing my bags and sleeping the night in the mission offices with all the other future "dads," we finally met our "kids." So I met my Beloved Son....Elder Sill! Elder Sill is from the great land of West Jordan, Utah, and man lemme tell you....this kid is a genius! His spanish is already so good, he understands almost everything. So he's LIGHT YEARS ahead from where I was. He has some trouble understanding the locals, but that's completely normal.
Fun fact: I learned how to do a Rubik's Cube a couple months ago and I feel proud that I can do it in almost under a minute!
Humbling experience: My kid, Elder Sill, can do a Rubik's Cube in 15 seconds...pretty sure my comp is a genius.
It's interesting opening up an area because you don't know anything or anyone. And now it's a lot bigger of a responsibilty when you're training and trying to help your new companion adapt to the mission life, language, culture, etc. Needless to say, I have been very overwhelmed this past few days.
BUT, this doesn't mean the end because Christ once said...
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)
We can always apply this in our daily lives. We don't need to be scared because He gives us His peace when we apply His teachings in our lives. Like faith, repentance, scripture study, prayer, baptism, etc. These are the things that will help us become the people that God wants us to become!
Love you guys! Sorry I didn't have a ton of time today. But I'll be sure to reply to the emails that were sent!
LES AMO!
Elder Tyler Gregory
