Week 64 Nacozari Nacozari?? more like NacoSAFARI!

Couldn’t give too much of an update because he had a long bus ride ahead (almost 12 hours of traveling) He got sick from the flu shot and had to go to the hospital.  5 other missionaries got sick from the flu shot too.  I will know better tomorrow everything and hopefully he will write an update that I can post below.
Holy cow...what a past few days I have had...allow me to explain.

So my "kid" Elder Sill and I were waiting to hear about the upcoming transfers, fully expecting that I would go while he would stay. But you never know where the Lord needs you to be! We both got taken out, so he's chilling in the offices right now while I got transferred to the furthest area away from the mission home, Nacozari. And things start to get a little crazy after that...

Our last days in Obregon were SO SAD (as other missionaries understand the pain of transferring away) and I watched as my own "son" left on his bus to Hermosillo (super sad!!!). A little while later, I took my nice 11 hour bus ride to the closest big city, Agua Prieta. I got there super late so I stayed the night with some other missionaries, including my new companion, Elder Sevilla from Peru.

I then remembered that this part of Sonora is directly in the mountains, so it is FREEZING. I'm talking like 30 degrees with wind (I realize it's not THAT cold....but after being in the heat forever, it is cold!!!). I then learned that our area was another 2 1/2 hours away and that it was a small town in the upskirts of the mountains. So we hopped on another bus to a town about an hour away called Esqueda that's also a part of our area. It's a tiny branch and the President is moving, which leaves the Branch President responsibilities to the senior companion...which is me! Talk about stress! Some guy was already talking to me about some problems he was having with his girlfriend and I'm just trying to survive out here trying to give my best advice to this dude. I still was lugging around my 3 suitcases and I still haven't gotten to my house yet. But we finally took a bus at night to Nacozari.

The 1 1/2 ride on the bus to Nacozari reminds me of what I imagine is the mountain expedition to the Base Camp of Everest. We just kept going higher and higher and it was dark, but you could see the lights of the small pueblos we passed. Everyone on the bus (including us) had their huge backpacking gear (the things they need to work in the mines) in the cold trekking up to this town. We finally got to the very beautiful mountain town of Nacozari late at night. Only to find out that the Branch President is out of commission/town for the next month or 2...which means the responsibilities of Branch President fall on the senior companion....ME!!! Like bro!!! Branch President of 2 branches in an isolated part of Mexico is super crazy! But I feel such a love for the people here already. They are so kind and so willing to listen to us. They remind me of how Jesus Christ would treat anybody, with humility and kindness. I'm a little bit stressed and anxious, but super pumped at the same time for this transfer! Please send some prayers this way this Christmas season. I'll send some y'alls way too!

Oh I almost forgot, on top of all of this stuff, my comp tells me that there's a lion here that some Narco has as a pet. I didn't believe him until we passed by a house and sure enough, there was a LION straight chillin' in the front yard. NacoSAFARI BABY!!

Les amo!
