Week 67 ya me voy...2020 baby!!
What in the world??? 2020! CRAZY!!! Hope everyone had a good holiday season....now buckle up...cause this is gonna be a good one.
First, I wanna give y'all a little about my companion, Elder Sevilla. He's from Chiclayo, Peru and is a convert of 6 years. He's super funny and knows a lot about the Bible. It's pretty funny to see the people we teach sometimes try to argue with us about our knowledge of the scriptures. This man destroys whatever person that tries to attack us...it's pretty exciting! He's a little on the shorter and bigger side, and I'm a little taller and thinner. Some girl called us "Elder Timon and Elder Pumba" from the Lion King....we find that super funny!
Well these past few weeks here in Nacozari and Esqueda have been quite the adventure. Here's some awesome things that have been happening...
#1 White Christmas!!!
Hahaha nah I don't mean snow....I mean Americans! haha! On Christmas Eve, my companion and I were in Agua Prieta packing our bags to get travelling to Nacozari when we get a call from the district president saying that a bunch of Americans from Utah and North Carolina were in Agua Prieta doing service here in MX during the holiday season. He informed us that there was an eye doctor who brought his equipment and a ton of glasses so that he could test the eyesight of the people and donating free glasses to them. And they wanted to do it in Nacozari! So we went last minute to meet the Americans and man lemme tell you....I haven't seen any Americans besides the missionaries here my whole mission (except the Babb's!) and I literally could not talk to them normally...it does something to you when you're in another country speaking another language 99% of the time for 15 months. So that was so fun! We then drove down to Nacozari and started setting up our project at the church and we had so much last minute advertisements via Facebook, WhatsApp, and even the local radio about free glasses! Then so many people came and we helped translate and we contacted so many people and have been able to teach so many people because of it...truly a "white christmas" miracle!
#2 Lifted Burdens
So if yall don't remember, we have had a lot of responsibilities trying to help our 2 branches with the presidential responsibilities. We have been trying to find a new building for our church services because our contract is gonna expire. So I was super stressed out trying to help the members out here while doing our missionary work as well. The district president has been super helpful in helping us out with a lot of these small responsibilities... we have some options for our new building so it's been such a tender mercy!
#3 Directing Vibes
Since we're sometimes the only priesthood holders in our towns sometimes on Sundays, we get the fun opportunity to do a lot during sacrament meetings. I directed one Sunday, played the piano (thanks mom for the years of lessons...it was passable!), did the sacrament, and gave a talk all in one service. We tend to help out and anticipate that we'll be helping out more in the future! #thegrinddontstop
Spiritual thought: Comes from a scripture that has been on my mind a lot these past few days; it comes from 3 Nephi when Christ himself is teaching the people from the America's. It's chapter 13 verses 32 and 33 which says...
32 For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
I love this because I feel like we overlook this principle. That if we seek the Kingdom of God first, all the rest of the things will come. We need to put our faith and trust in Him! He knows everything that we need. We just need to show him that we love Him enough to show our faith in Him. And everything else will fall into place!
That's all from me for now! Hasta la próxima!
Elder Tyler Gregory
