78 "not my will, but thine, be done"

Image
We read in Luke 22 about Jesus Christ atoning for our sins and suffering all pains, agonies, and heartbreaks for all of humanity in the Garden of Gethsemane. While he is suffering, he says to the Father (or God), "Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."  Or in other words, Jesus was asking the Father to "remove [the] cup" from him so He could stop feeling the agonizing pain. But, He was willing to endure if it meant He was doing what God needed Him to do. Now I will never feel the pain or agony or heartbreak or any of the things that Christ felt in that Garden, but right now....I feel  what can maybe be considered a fraction of what He felt. As of last night, the church is sending home all foreign missionaries who are serving in Mexico due to Corona Virus concerns. So that means I'll be headed back to Virginia and be put in quarantine for a period of 14 days. There's a possibili...

77 weeks ¿Corona who?

Image
Transfers were today so we talked on the phone but no email or pictures because he did not get to go to an Internet cafe.  Maybe tomorrow? Also the corona virus is just beginning so just a few precautions so far.  We shall see. What's good?! It's been pretty interesting this past week. It seems like the whole world except for Mexico has taken super serious precautions about the Corona Virus. The only thing that everyone has really emphasized is "Wash your hands!!!" So needless to say...Caborca, Mexico should have some pretty clean hands!  The church has officially closed any type of meetings held in church buildings. So we had to have a small church service in the house of a member and help deliver the sacrament to other members/people who wanted it. I'm pretty sure we biked all across Caborca so we could deliver this sacred ordinance...it was a really cool experience to say the sacrament prayer so many times in Spanish as well as seeing the look on pe...

76 More divisions than a math test

Image
Yep...you already know this week was full of divisions! Before I start, a good friend reminded me to be more clear about the "mission lingo." So I'll be better at that from now on #BetterLateThanNever Divisions- also known as "splits," is when you temporarily switch companions with another companionships for training purposes, interviews, or when someone is sick or unable to work. My comp got whatever I had a couple of weeks ago, so basically the whole week he was in the house while I was doing divisions with Elders Joachin and Cannon...two of my homies! With that being said, the work has been interesting. We have had to work in both areas due to the divisions. So it's been hard trying to cover so much ground, but the reliable "Blue Baddie" (nickname of my bike) has been hauling me all over Caborca teaching God's children about Jesus Christ! It's been quite the adventure! Update: Lluvia is progressing so well! She's...

75 Elder McGregory is back

Image
What's good?! Just wanted to give a quick update! Elder McGregory: So if y'all remember my good ole days in Magdalena, I was (somewhat) commonly known as Elder McGregory (nicknaming after the boxer/fighter Conor McGregor). Now it has come full circle...allow me to explain... Bobby: One day this random dude calls us up and just says, "Elders, my name is Bobby and I want to get baptized." We stopped whatever we were doing and met up with him immediately. He told us he has taken the lessons for 3 years but had never felt prepared until now. He lives in the area of the sister missionaries, so we passed the reference. It also turns out (oh by the way, this guy is HUGE) that this Bobby dude is the owner of a boxing gym. He always says that we can go to his gym whenever we want. So the week of his baptism, all (6 of us) of the elders here in Caborca went to train with him one afternoon just to show him that we care for him and that we're thinking of him. And we ...

74 Week "I only love my bed and my momma...I'm sorry!!!

Image
This past week was a bit of a rough one....it's not everyday that a missionary gets sick on his mission. It's even worse when you can't leave the house for a few days cause you can't do a whole lot except.....well...recover! But I'm feeling better and we're back on the grind so it's all good! Here's a few things about Caborca that one should know... 1) Imagine that you are in the middle of no where in the desert, and you see a random city....That would be Caborca 2) Caborca is super famous for their world class Asparagus. There's a bunch of farms here and a ton of people work on them. We are in harvesting season right now so it's pretty hectic. 3) In case I haven't mentioned before, it's the straight desert here. So we are always having to be careful with the flying sand and dust that's in the air. 4) People say the best tortillas are from Caborca....they're good don't get me wrong....but all of Sonora will have s...

73 Weeks Ain't nobody got time fo' dat

Image
"Ain't nobody got time fo' dat I got Bronchitis!" Yes friends and family....the extreme desert weather has finally gotten to me...I'm sick with Bronchitis! So I've been out of action these past few days and it's such a bummer! We haven't been able to do a whole lot. At least I've been able to study more and chill in the house and whatnot. So I'll just share a quick spiritual thought! I love Matthew 7:7 in the New Testament, it says... 7 ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: What a beautiful way to word the power that comes in SEEKING and FINDING. It teaches us that we always have to put in an effort in all things that we may receive the blessings or guidance that we want. I testify that when we seek diligently for the blessings we want, that they shall come! Love you guys! Elder Gregory

Week 72 Crazy Caborca

Image
I think the craziest weather I've experienced here in the mission has been here in the straight desert of Caborca. I'm literally dying of heat in the day and think I'm in the Arctic at night. I'm always bringing a jacket during the day thinking..."Why?! It's so hot right now!" but I'm always grateful for my preparation when it gets close to freezing at night. Which brings me to my spiritual thought about preparation...Doctrine and Covenants 38:30 says... 30 I tell you these things because of your prayers; wherefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear. I love the last part that says "...if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." We need to spiritually fortify ourselves so that we can be prepared for whatever challenge ...
