the harder the work, the better the reward Week 15

Image
This week was a GRIND. Like it was so hard, but that is the life of a missionary in Magdalena. Not gonna lie, it was hard after talking to you guys. I got super homesick. And it also didn't help that for everyday and all day this past week, all we did was door to door contacting.  The only lesson we had planned for the whole week was with our one progressing investigator, David, he has problems with smoking and with his wife. But he is very interested and loves when we come over. So me and Sanchez decided to fast one day for him. That was so hard. I was so tired and hungry and thirsty and the whole nine yards. But I was just hoping for a miracle, I knew that with because of our faith, we could receive one. We had the branch president come with us, and boy was that a gamechanger, the whole family came and heard the lesson. I couldn't really understand exactly what was happening, but it was like a spiritual intervention of sorts. Then David randomly said "yo q...

Week 14 Merry Christmas...Feliz Navidad

Image
Sorry this will have to be short because all but like 1 or 2 of the cybers in Nogales are closed and it took us forever to finally find one just to find out it´s gonna close in probably 10 minutes... Anyways, I am not sure if I can make a skype account now because I will need a cell phone. But I´m gonna try and use the one we have. If not I´ll try and go to a member´s house and I could use their computer or something. But tell me your Skype account name just in case. This week was pretty fun, short, long, and crazy all at the same time. It started out with splits with Elder Anderson (a zone leader) from Ogden, Utah. Man it was so fun to be in Magdalena with him. He is super funny and a good missionary. Always a good time when you´re with a gringo.  We had a combined zone Christmas party and devotional with all the missionaries in Nogales and Agua Prieta. President and Hermana Myers are so fun and amazing. Definitely grateful for them. We also had a secret santa ex...

Week 13 Bullets and Mice and Kisses

Image
Yep you already know we had both bullets and mice this week. I'll start with the mice. I am at war with them. They eat my bread and cereal (through the bags) in the night and I can never catch them.I found one the size of my hand near my clothes (of all the places it could've been it was my clothes...:/) I will try and set up some kind of trap. Updates to come. This week was interesting to say the least. Tuesday we had our district meeting with a couple new elders in our district.  Elder Estrada is staying and I love him. Anyways, we got a new elder in Imuris named Elder Mendez from Bolivia. He is a lot more quiet and reserved but funny. He speaks a little English and he speaks Spanish nice and slow and with simple words. I can understand him about 90% of the time...what a blessing! I'm grateful someone understands that learning a new language is hard and is trying to help me with it. So after our district meeting, we hopped back on the bus and had a wond...

Week 12 Got to See My Boys!

Image
I can't not start off without saying how good it is to have nick emery back...shoutout to BYU basketball and them beating Utah...I'll take that W any day over a W on Weber State. Anyways, this week was the best yet. We didn't do a whole lot of tracting or contacting because I was on splits with Elder Estrada (Imuris elder) and then a couple days later we went to Hermosillo for our "End of 6 weeks" meeting. I got to see all of the boys again and I can't remember the last time I was so happy. We all slept at the AP's house and just chilled and we all talked about our experiences. I have drawn a few confusions about the other areas... ~seems like the other areas are much better when it comes to the members, churches, lessons, food, etc. There might be some things better about Magdalena than other places, but from what I have heard...it's not much. So I'll be excited to see what the other areas are like. ~I am very lucky to have Elder Sanche...

Week 11 Still in Magdalena

Image
Well this week was rough, We had many lessons fall through and we basically just aimlessly wander around trying to find people. It was hard. My Spanish has improved, I can speak better than I can understand. It´s hard because many missionaries come up to me and say "oh after the first transfer I could pretty much understand everything" and I'm like I literally can't understand anyone and I'm 5 weeks in...so much for not trying to compare myself:):):):) Anyways, I gotta look at the bright side and realize that my Spanish is getting better every week because "Comparison is the thief of joy"-Mark Twain. We had a couple of good lessons. And this 16 year old girl we are teaching read the Book of Mormon when I made her pinky promise. Good to see that she is keeping her word! We have another dude named David who is progressing really well but struggles with the belief of a living prophet. We gave him some Liahonas (or Ensigns) so hopefully that'll ...
